Debut No. 56 "Follow Your Arrow" Kacey Musgraves
In February, Billboard reported that Kacey Musgraves' "Follow Your Arrow" was a song that one anonymous country programmer "wish[es] I could play on my station." With such lyrics as, "Kiss lots of boys or kiss lots of girls, if that's what you're into / When the straight and narrow gets a little too straight, roll up a joint, I would," a country consultant described the song as "pushing the envelope" at a format not historically known for potentially eyebrow-raising content. Perhaps Musgraves' rising star is giving her leeway: following the bow of her major-label debut album "Same Trailer Different Park" at No. 1 on Top Country Albums and six nominations - tied with Taylor Swift for the most - at this year's CMA Awards, "Arrow" shoots onto Country Airplay at No. 56. It follows the set's No. 10 hit "Merry Go 'Round" and the No. 23-peaking "Blowin' Smoke." KKBQ Houston led all reporters with 27 plays for "Arrow" in the Oct. 14-20 Nielsen BDS tracking week.
