11/4:EXO Wins MTV EMAs Best Korea Act, Battles Justin Bieber and One Direction Fans for Worldwide Act

Fans of the 12-member boy band battle Beliebers, Directioners and more to snag the MTV European Music Award for EXO.
Quickly-rising K-pop boy band EXO are nominated alongside fellow pop darlings like Justin Bieber, One Direction, Cody Simpson and more in the 2013 MTV European Music Awards' worldwide act.
This year, a total of 186 artists from 51 countries were nominated in initial country-specific voting contests. EXO won the EMAs' Best Korea Act award, beating out fellow boy bands B.A.P, Boyfriend, U-Kiss and girl group SISTAR.

Now, EXO will represent Korea as one of the 10 finalists in the EMAs' Worldwide Act award, decided on completely by fan voting. EXO supporters compete against Justin Bieber (representing Canada), One Direction (UK and Ireland), Cody Simpson (Australia), Lena (Germany), among others. See the full nominee list here.

Should EXO pull out the win, it would make them the second Korean act to win the EMA. In 2011, BIGBANG won the worldwide act, beating out the likes of Britney Spears and Lena.

After debuting in early 2012, EXO has been on a fast ride to the higher echelons of K-pop rankings. After "Wolf" became their first Top 40 K-Pop Hot 100 hit this summer, latest single "Growl" (below) smashed the chart, peaking at No. 3 and spending eight weeks in the Top 10.

The 2013 MTV EMAs will be held at Amsterdam's Ziggo Dome on Nov. 10. Fans can vote here.

10/30:EXO fan club EXO Planet makes official statement about 'military exemption petition

With the internet in a hubbub over supposed EXO fans (or anti-fans) creating a petition to keep the members out of mandatory military service, one of the SM Entertainment group's largest fan cafes has stepped up to clear EXO's name.
Since news of the army exemption petition became a hot topic online, many netizens have been outraged over its existence, while others questioned whether it was really created by true fans. A large number of EXO fans have stated that the controversy was created to cast a negative light on EXO and their fan base in the midst of netizen scorn over obsessively devoted EXOtics.

One of EXO's largest daum fan cafes, EXO Planet, which has over 100,000 members, has now released an official statement on the controversy.

EXO Planet announced:

"Hello. This is Daum's EXO Planet. Whether it's because of an anti-fan or a fan, because of that one person, EXO is being cast in a bad light on multiple portal sites, so we're writing this statement. We have absolutely no plans to sign a petition for the EXO members to get exempted from military service. We will not hold back our support or words of encouragement for EXO if they make the right choices. If they ever go in the wrong direction, we'll be hurt, but we'll discipline them out of love in order for them to become more mature... We would like everyone to know that we have no involvement in this matter."

The fan club also stated, "If someone is spreading false information with no evidence and ends up hurting or making things difficult for the members, we want to tell the people who are recklessly attacking EXO that our side will take legal action."

What's your take on the issue?
