11/11:Lady Gaga Unveils 'Flying Dress' Volantis
Lady Gaga's album sales are already stratospheric, so why not her evening wear?
The "Applause" singer unveiled a high-tech, white vehicle she bills as the world's first flying dress. The contraption lifted her up inside a mammoth building at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where she held a launch party for her new album on Sunday.
The battery-powered dress has six booms in a hex formation.
The 27-year-old New York entertainer said later that this was "maybe a small step for Volantis" - as she calls the metal dress - but "a big-time step" for Lady Gaga.
She says her ultimate goal is to stage the first musical performance from space.
Her third studio album, "Artpop," will be released worldwide Monday.

11/11:Miley Cyrus Wins Video of the Year, Lights a Joint On Stage at MTV EMAs : Watch
She couldn't resist. Singer Miley Cyrus smoked a joint on stage and twerked with a dwarf during the MTV EMAs on Sunday.
The 20-year old pop star also took home the Best Video award for her hit song "Wrecking Ball" during a show with a strong lineup of other performers including Eminem and Katy Perry.
Miley Cyrus opened MTV's Europe Music Awards with her hit song "We Can't Stop" - while wearing a space-themed silver spandex suit and twerking with a female dwarf.
To the delight of the crowd in Amsterdam's Ziggo Dome, Cyrus finished the number by sticking out her tongue - the same expression she flashed repeatedly during her eyebrow-raising appearance at MTV's Video Music Awards in New York in August.
After winning the top award at the end of the show, she celebrated by demonstratively lighting up a large spliff and quickly taking a puff.
Marijuana is not legal in the Netherlands, but smokers can't be prosecuted for possessing small amounts and it is sold openly in cafes known euphemistically as "coffee shops."
Cyrus, who long ago shed her image of innocence as the child star of "Hannah Montana," has made no secret of her appreciation of Amsterdam's attractions, arriving the Friday before the show and hanging out at the Greenhouse coffee shop downtown with several other stars.
She also wore marijuana leaf emblems in her earphones during a live rendition of "Wrecking Ball" against the backdrop of a giant video screen of herself crying.
The EMAs traditionally focus on global, rather than U.S. pop music acts, though there's a lot of overlap: winners included Bruno Mars, who grabbed Best Song for "Locked Out of Heaven," and Eminem both in the Best Hip Hop and Global Icon category.
Another notable winner was Katy Perry for Best Female Artist. Perry, apparently caught by surprise at her win, spit out a sip of champagne and took the stage to thank her fans. During Perry's performance earlier, she hung suspended by wires as green lasers reflected off her mirrored outfit during a rendition of "Unconditional."
Eminem, who has just released his first album in several years, appeared to have lost none of his rapping skill as he performed "Rap God," spitting out words at a blistering pace.
He was handed his Global Icon honor by "Anchorman" character "Ron Burgundy" (actor Will Ferrell), who informed him that Dutch DJ Afrojack had been insulting him behind his back. "Who?" Eminem deadpanned.
The "intergalactic"-themed show is scheduled to be rebroadcast in the U.S. later Sunday.

11/11:Lady Gaga's artRAVE Party: 'ARTPOP' Performance, Flying Dress & Costumes Galore
Art and pop converged at Brooklyn Navy Yard Sunday night just as Lady Gaga had envisioned it, but nearly 70 minutes after fans expected her. At around 12:45 a.m. Monday morning (Nov. 11), Gaga took the steps in front of a larger-than-life sculpture of herself custom-made by Jeff Koons, and inspired by the cover of "ARTPOP," which hit stores just 45 minutes prior to her opening performance of "Aura." Clad in a clown-like white mask with black-and-white buoys that made her like a bizarro Jack In The Box mascot, Gaga spent the first two songs of her live-streamed concert lip-synching to a track - coming off more pop art than artistic pop music.
That seemed to be the central theme of Sunday's "artRave" event at Brooklyn Navy Yard, during which Gaga hosted a press conference where she introduced the technology for a "flying dress" (the beta version of which could hovered about three feet off the ground), debuted new works of art from Koons, Marina Abramovic, Inez & Vinoodh and Robert Wilson; and showed up late to her own party (she cited traffic overload on Twitter: "Only little monsters can crash VEVO. *face palm.*") Her Little Monsters, who turned out in costumed droves, already knew all the words to every one of "ARTPOP's" 15 songs, but Gaga put spectacle first - singing along with the live band during "Gypsy" and emotional fan-dedicated ballad "Dope."
Like the rough-edged live versions of these "ARTPOP" songs, which will surely be tweaked as Gaga brings her latest vision around the globe, the all-white stage setup and costumes recalled a blank canvas that would be etched upon at a later date. Album stand-outs like "Sexxx Dreams" and "MANiCURE" we're presented with colorful choreography but paled in comparison to their studio counterparts. The two-single encore of "Applause" and "Do What U Want" were more refined and, not surprisingly, inspired rousing sing-alongs from the sleepy-eyed crowd at 1:30 am; "Do What U Want" may have required a backing track for R. Kelly's verse, but Gaga put all of her remaining energy in the finale, continuing to warble the "WANT with my BODY!" flare-up long after the song ended.
Gaga's newest live setup will strengthen with repetition, but the experience of artRAVE was pretty impeccable once the gaggle of costumed fans were allowed into the Navy Yard. App demonstrations were being held in a small room behind the stage, and Gaga's technological portion of "ARTPOP" was explained thoroughly by women in white uniforms. The sculptures, including the Koons replica of Gaga, were ogled and photographed by all. Drinks, hot dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches and desserts were provided for free as ravers danced to "Empire State of Mind" and "Back That Azz Up" in the main hall. Even if the "ARTPOP" live show still needs a bit of tinkering to fully captivate, Lady Gaga showed on Sunday night that she knows how to meld low art and high art at a party.

11/10:After Eminem, Can Albums From One Direction, Lady Gaga or Britney Spears Rack Up Monster Debuts?
With Eminem's new album on course for a blockbuster first week, are there any other albums left this year than can also rack up huge, half-million-plus debuts?
Yes. But that list is very short. As in: There's just one album on it: One Direction's "Midnight Memories."
As previously reported, Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" is set to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week with around 750,000 sold (through the tracking week ending Nov. 10). It will tally the second-biggest sales week of the year, after the debut of Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience," which bowed with 968,000 in March, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
According to forecasts from label sources, One Direction's "Midnight Memories," due out Nov. 25, could debut with a little over 500,000.
It's the third album from the British vocal group, and follows their last release, "Take Me Home." That set bowed with 540,000 in its first week back in November of 2012.
There are, of course, other albums due out this year that will earn significant debuts. But none -- at least at this point -- are expected to come close to the bows of Eminem and One Direction.
(You may wonder: How can industry sources forecast first-week sales for an album before it has come out? Sales projections are based on a number of indicators. They include orders from physical retailers, pre-orders on digital services like iTunes, first-week performance of comparable albums, media exposure, radio and YouTube trends for the album's singles, and so on.)
Lady Gaga's "ARTPOP" album, out on Monday, Nov. 11, may sell around 300,000 to 350,000 if early industry forecasts hold. Her last album, 2011's "Born This Way," debuted with 1.1 million sold. (However, it benefited from an Amazon MP3 offer that sold it for 99 cents on two days of its debut week. Billboard estimates that the 99 cent version resulted in 440,000 copies of the album's first-week haul.)
Also on the horizon is Britney Spears' "Britney Jean," which is scheduled for release on Dec. 3. While it's a bit early to predict what Spears will sell, industry prognosticators indicate it could start slower than her last album. Her previous release, 2011's "Femme Fatale," launched with 276,000 at No. 1.

11/10:Bruno Mars Recruits R. Kelly, Pharrell for Raunchy 'Gorilla' Remix: Listen
It seems like Pharrell's on everything these days, and his discography now includes a spot on a remix of Bruno Mars' "Gorilla."
On Twitter Friday (Oct. 8), Mars dropped the remix of the "Unorthodox Jukebox" single, saying it featured "two of [his] favorite artist[s]": the producer/rapper extraordinaire and R&B/soul crooner R. Kelly.
If you thought the original "Gorilla" -- with its lines about primal, uninhibited sex -- was dirty enough, does Mars and co. have a treat in store for you.
The remix -- referred to officially as a 'G-mix' -- features Pharrell making a number of sexual allusions to yoga poses, though it's R. Kelly that gets down and dirty, imitating the "ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh"s of the original and primates themselves while declaring that he'll make a certain part of your anatomy growl.
The release of the remix follows the official "Gorilla" video, a steamy affair that dropped last month.
"Gorilla" sits at No. 28 on the Hot 100 -- six spots down from its No. 22 peak last week.

11/10:Eminem Added to MTV EMAs Lineup
Eminem is the latest artist to join the MTV EMAs performers bill.
The rapper made the stealth announcement Friday by sending out a YouTube link via Twitter to a new 16-second promo set to one of his new tracks, "Berzerk," off the recent release, "The Marshall Mathers LP 2."
The teaser opens with a cassette tape being inserted into a large boombox with the MTV EMAs statuette right next to it, against the backdrop of Amsterdam, where this year's ceremony takes place, before "Berzerk" begins to play. (Eminem announced the release date of his album during the Aug. 25 telecast of the MTV VMAs.)
Eminem, who has 13 EMA wins (the most of any artist), joins previously announced performers Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, The Killers, Snoop Dogg and Afrojack. LMFAO's Redfoo will host the awards show.
"We like to let moments happen," Bruce Gillmer, co-executive producer of the show and executive vp talent and music programming/events at Viacom International Media Networks, told The Hollywood Reporter recently. "We have very dynamic personalities in one room who bring their own energy to the event. If you try to overproduce, the audience senses that."
Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lead with five nominations each, while Cyrus, Thicke, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber follow with four noms.
A U.S. telecast, taking place from New York City, co-hosted by Glee's Darren Criss, Cher Lloyd and Andrew Schulz will air as a lead-up to the ceremony.
Watch the promo below.
The MTV EMAs take place Sunday, Nov. 10.

11/10:New York Judge Rejects DMX's Bankruptcy Filing
A federal judge in New York has tossed rapper DMX's bankruptcy filing, making him fair game for creditors.
The Journal News reports that a bankruptcy judge in White Plains dismissed the 42-year-old rapper's July 29 Chapter 11 filing on Friday.
The hip-hop star's real name is Earl Simmons. The judge's move means he could lose his possessions including his share in a home in suburban Mount Kisko.
Simmons' biggest debt is $1.3 million in child support owed to some of the 10 children he has fathered.
U.S. Trustee Tracy Hope Davis said Simmons failed to provide trustworthy information in his bankruptcy filing.
Simmons' publicist Domenick Nati said he was unaware of the court hearing.
Simmons was arrested Monday in South Carolina on charges including driving with a suspended license.

11/9:8 Things We Learned at Lady Gaga's SiriusXM Special
Gearing up for the release of her third album "ARTPOP" next Tuesday (Nov. 12), Lady Gaga sat down at SiriusXM’s ‘Town Hall’ Friday (Nov. 8) -- and things got pretty interesting.
Donning a conservative white dress along with a matching cowboy hat, Mother Monster dished on "ARTPOP," as well as some of her future plans. Here's eight things in particular we learned at the 'Town Hall' event.
1. Gaga kicked the conversation off with the presentation of her "ARTPOP" app, set for release on Sunday (Nov. 10), and the interactive alien/hologram Petca that will guide you through the entire process, including creating your “aura.”
2. The pop star touched on her outer space performance, revealing that the entire thing will be livestreamed back to earth, with the concert closing at Ground Zero.
3. As for how the concept of the new album came about, Gaga stated that it happened right after the release of her sophomore album, "Born This Way." Although she seemed to be glowing during the interview, she exposed that when she’s finished making an album she goes into a depressed mental state, “Like a mother letting her kid go off to college.”
4. Like most, Gaga cherishes her alone time, which usually includes smoking weed and listening to R. Kelly and metal.
5. During her off-time, the pop star eats a lot of pizza -- especially pizza in Chicago, where she’s recently been residing and connected with R. Kelly to record “Do What U Want.”
6. She wants to have tons of children -- well, three little monsters, to be exact -- and who she knows will probably hate her music.
7. Don’t expect Gaga to be touring when she’s sixty – she doesn’t see herself doing that.
8. Get ready for Mother Monster’s Thanksgiving special with the Muppets, where she may or may not give Miss Piggy fashion advice. Things haven’t been the same for Gaga since she and Kermit split.

11/9:Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson Tour Adding Arena Dates in 2014
"Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour" returns to North America for 40 more dates next year, looking to sell another 120,000 tickets

"Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour," which recently became the ninth-top-grossing tour in history, will return to North American arenas in 2014, Billboard can exclusively reveal.

"We're in the process of fiercely booking it," Cirque du Soleil senior VP of touring shows Finn Taylor says. "We're mostly trying to do new markets so we can bring the show to new audiences, but there are some repeats of our more successful markets from the first tour."
Created in a partnership between the Michael Jackson estate and Cirque, "Immortal" will visit small to full-size arenas in the United States, Canada, Mexico and perhaps South America, beginning in March. The Cirque-promoted North American tour will perform in about 40 cities, but specific routing details weren't available at press time.
John Branca, who serves as co-executor of the Jackson estate with John McClain, says the upcoming "Immortal" performances could be slightly different from what audiences have already seen.
"I could see retooling the show in some ways and switching up some elements, but overall the format would stay very similar," Branca says. "There are certain numbers we might redo, but I don't think we would change the entire format."
In August, "Immortal" will once again visit Mexico City's Palacio de los Deportes, where it experienced some of its most lucrative business after grossing $13.2 million from 14 performances in 2012, according to Billboard Boxscore.
"We're positive we can sell another maybe 120,000-140,000 tickets in a second run," says Renato Herrera, executive VP at concert promoter OCESA, which operates the venue.
Herrera says there are also talks about taking "Immortal" to smaller arenas in such South American markets as Colombia, Argentina and Brazil.
Additionally, Cirque is in discussions with international promoters about bringing "Immortal" back to various parts of the world. With 407 shows under its belt, the trek has visited 25 countries on four continents. International dates haven't been confirmed beyond a lengthy run in Dubai, which goes through mid-January 2014.
"It's very tough to do one-offs with this show, because we have to bring all of the equipment with us," Taylor says. "We have to work on establishing some kind of regional leg or regional tour before we can get anywhere. There might be one or two Asian cities that want us, but we need six or seven to make it worthwhile."

11/8:Eminem's 'MMLP2' Marketing Juggernaut: Tapping 'Call of Duty,' Beats, ESPN to Help Sell 750K Albums
In this excerpt from this week's cover story on Eminem and his just-released "Marshall Mathers LP 2," Reggie Ugwu takes a look at the positioning and strategizing behind the launch of Eminem's first record in six years, including a far-reaching agreement with Activision for its "Call of Duty" series, as well as "Saturday Night Football" and much more. Be the first to read our in-depth coverage each week by subscribing.
Eminem's new album "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" (released Tuesday, Nov. 5 on Aftermath/Interscope) is on track to sell an estimated 700-750K units. Billboard looked at the innovative branding partnerships that helped the record reach what may likely have the year's second-biggest opening week.
Eminem's manager Paul Rosenberg and his label Interscope faced the task of marketing the rap superstar's sequel to the 14th-best-selling album in the history of SoundScan, "The Marshall Mathers LP," in a radically changed industry environment. To approximate the omnipresence that Eminem enjoyed in the era of “Total Request Live” and Tower Records, his team crafted an aggressive and forward-looking campaign that relied heavily on strategic partnerships.

As part of a multifaceted deal, the terms of which weren’t disclosed, Eminem and Interscope licensed the Marshall Mathers LP 2 song “Survival” for use in Activision’s holiday tent-pole “Call of Duty: Ghosts” and relevant marketing materials. The song had its world premiere, before any details about the album were announced, at a “Call of Duty” event in Los Angeles in August. A video for the track, financed by Activision and featuring Eminem in front of a backdrop of in-game footage, was released the following month.
“We know from our own research that our fans have a really strong affinity for Eminem -- there’s a lot of overlap there,” Activision chief marketing officer Tim Ellis says. “Aligning the two brands is something we think will continue to serve us well into the future.”
Beyond the “Survival” deal, Interscope and Activision conspired to unite their formidable forces at retail. The two parties coordinated the release of the album and the game for Nov. 5 and have arranged nationwide midnight sale campaigns at Walmart and Best Buy.
The partnership’s biggest coup, though, is at Game Stop, where all copies of “Call of Duty: Ghosts” will come with a code to download "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" and an exclusive song at $8.99 -- three dollars off the standard-edition iTunes price. The previous installment in the “Call of Duty” series, 2012’s “Black Ops II,” set a record with $500 million in first-day sales, and with more than 4,000 stores nationwide, first-week foot traffic for “Ghosts” at Game Stop alone is estimated to be in the millions.
TEAM EMINEM
Album Title: "The Marshall Mathers LP 2"Labels: Aftermath/Interscope
Release date: November 5
Management: Paul Rosenberg, Goliath Artists
Producers: Dr. Dre and Rick Rubin (executive producers), variousPublishing: Universal Music Publishing Group
Booking Agent: Cara Lewis, Creative Artists AgencyAttorneys: Theo Sedlmayr and Lisa Donini, Sedlmayr and Associates
With the record's official first single, the Rick Rubin-produced “Berzerk,” Rosenberg and Interscope turned to another pair of partners to maximize the song’s exposure. The track was featured in a Beats headphones commercial that aired during MTV’s Video Music Awards in August that included snippets of the official music video. The ad, in addition to serving as the world premiere of “Berzerk,” also marked the official announcement of the album, revealing its title, release date and the involvement of executive producers Rubin and Dr. Dre for the first time.
“Keeping that a secret was a modern miracle,” Rosenberg says of the ad. “Pulling it off meant telling a lot of people ‘no,’ which doesn’t always make your partners happy, but we really believe in the element of surprise. That we were able to give people all of that information in a 15-second spot like that really helped us make a big splash.”
In addition to the deal with Beats -- in which Eminem’s label bosses and longtime co-conspirators Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre have an ownership stake -- “Berzerk” was named the official song of ESPN’s “Saturday Night Football” (broadcast on ABC) for the duration of the season. Eminem made a rare live TV appearance on the program in September to premiere the video for the song during the matchup between Michigan and Notre Dame. His slack-jawed interview with Kirk Herbstreit and Brent Musburger caused a social media sensation, and sparked arguments about whether his nervousness was an act or not. (“I feel awkward,” Eminem told Musburger.) Viewership that night totaled 8.6 million, according to Nielsen, more than doubling the season average.
Digitally, marketing efforts surrounding "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" have been equally aggressive. A newly relaunched Eminem.com offered exclusive pre-order bundles more than a month before the iTunes presale. A bundle of the deluxe CD and a lithograph signed by Eminem priced at $500 sold out in a limited edition of 500. So did bundles that included a CD and hoodie ($76) and a CD, T-shirt and unsigned lithograph ($68). Driven largely by Eminem’s 77 million Facebook fans and nearly 16 million Twitter followers, Rosenberg says pre-orders for the album from Eminem.com alone were up to 10,000 units eight days before release date.
“We’ve really figured out how to engage the fan base online in a way that seems to be working,” he says. “If you have the right people coordinating it and you plan everything out, the steps that you make toward a record can be very powerful.”
A less likely, but reportedly effective contributor to the presale figure was Waze, the fast-growing traffic and navigation startup that Google acquired for $1 billion in June. Interscope used the app to place virtual ads called “pins” at the locations of music retailers nationwide. Whenever one of Waze’s 30 million users drives by an Eminem pin, clicking on it displays a full-screen ad for the album including a link to the pre-order.
“One of the things we wanted to do for this campaign was ‘never-been-done-befores,’” Interscope head of digital marketing Brooke Michael says. “Most people may not think of music when they think of Waze, but we saw it as an opportunity to engage with millions of captive users in a unique way.”

11/8:Chris Brown Countersues Man in Frank Ocean Altercation
Chris Brown has countersued a man who accused the R&B star's entourage of attacking him outside a recording studio earlier this year.
The singer filed an assault and battery lawsuit Wednesday against Sha'keir Duarte, who claimed in an earlier suit that he was injured when a fight erupted between Brown and Frank Ocean's entourages in January outside a West Hollywood studio.
Duarte sued Brown in August and accused the singer of being the aggressor in the fight. Brown's countersuit however accuses Duarte of instigating the fight by pushing, kicking and punching the R&B singer and threatening to kill him.
Brown, 24, is seeking unspecified damages.
Duarte's attorney Joseph Porter III did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment.
No criminal charges were filed over the fight, but Brown may face criminal penalties after he was arrested last month in Washington, D.C. for allegedly punching a man outside a hotel.
Brown remains on probation for his 2009 attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna and is due for a hearing in Los Angeles on Nov. 20, during which the new case may be addressed. Brown spent a day and a half in custody and faces a misdemeanor battery charge over the incident.
The R&B singer entered rehab for anger management issues on Oct. 29.

11/8:Mariah Carey Hits New High on Social 50 Chart
The Halloween holiday helps Mariah Carey hit a new peak on the Social 50, as a photo of the diva’s children sparks her re-entry at No. 24.
The Social 50 ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views, song plays and reactions as measured by music analytics company Next Big Sound.
On Halloween Carey snapped a shot of her kids (Monroe and Moroccan) in their costumes (both dressed as Superman) that got 112,000 likes on Instagram. In turn, the number of new followers to Carey’s account on the platform increase by 184% over the previous frame.
On Facebook where it was cross-posted, it received over 350,000 likes (to date) which helped fuel the 243% rise in conversation about Carey on the platform, which gave way to 189,000 new fans (up 170%).
Carey peaked at No. 29 in two previous weeks -- on the charts dated Aug. 24 and April 20.
Above Carey at No. 17 is the highest debut of the week, as the late Lou Reed arrives on the tally. His arrival is fueled by conversation and buzz generated by his death on Oct. 27.
The majority of the activity around Reed occurred on Facebook, where there were 429,000 conversations about him (a 1,746% weekly increase). In addition, his official Facebook page scored 104,000 new followers (up 79%). Fans rushed to reminisce with his music as well, evidenced by the 832% lift the videos on his VEVO channel received in weekly plays.
Even further down, A$AP Rocky debuts on the Social 50 for the first time at No. 48 as the New York rapper releases the video for “Angels” from his early 2013 release Long Live A$AP. The release prompted a 123% increase in conversation on Facebook which led to the addition of 243,000 new followers on the platform (a 125% increase over the previous frame). His YouTube channel where the video was posted on Oct. 31 receives 878,000 views during the week, a 176% increase.
Up near the top of the chart, Eminem makes a predictable rise into the top five, as the chart reflected the week leading up to the release of his new album, "The Marshall Mathers LP 2." He moves 11-4 to reach his second-highest position to date since he hit No. 3 the week of Sept. 21 when “Berzerk” -- the first single from "Marshall Mathers LP 2" -- was released.
Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus (2-1) and Katy Perry (1-2) swap places as Justin Bieber rebounds 6-3. Demi Lovato dips 3-5 as One Direction swings (8-6), beginning an upward trend we can expect to carry into next week. The group released the video for their newest single “Story Of My Life,” late in the current charting period. That continued exposure could push them up the tally next week.
Ariana Grande holds steady at No. 7 while Nicki Minaj climbs (9-8). Britney Spears tumbles 4-9 as Justin Timberlake remains at No. 10 to close out the top 10.

11/8:Eminem Debuts at No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart; Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' Returns
Nearly 15 years after the No. 62-peaking "Just Don't Give a F***" introduced Eminem to Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, the Detroit rapper posts his first No. 1 on the list.
"The Monster," featuring Rihanna, opens at No. 1 as it exploded across all three of the chart's metrics in its first week of availability. According to Nielsen BDS, the cut reached 36.6 million listeners in the Oct. 30 - Nov. 5 tracking week and earned 2.3 million U.S. streams Oct. 28 - Nov. 3. Digitally, it sold 327,000 first-week downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan, enough for a No. 1 debut on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs and Rap Digital Songs
Notably, of Eminem's so far eight top 10 hits on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, five of them came since the tally revised its methodology in October of 2012. Since then, the chart now incorporates digital sales and streaming data, in addition to monitored airplay. Previous to the revision, Eminem's singles generally charted much lower on the chart, as the tally was overwhelmingly powered by airplay. In turn, because Eminem's history at R&B/hip-hop radio is relatively weak, his fortunes on the overall Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart were diminished. In total, Eminem has charted 42 entries on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, stretching back to his 1998 debut with "Just Don't Give a F***."
Just how little R&B/hip-hop airplay does Eminem receive? On this week's R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, which ranks the top 50 most-heard songs on R&B/hip-hop radio, Eminem is no where to be found. So far, none of the songs released from "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" have charted on the list. He last visited the chart with "No Love," which peaked at No. 59 in late 2010. He's only charted five top 10 hits on the airplay chart, out of 31 entries.
Comparatively, on the Radio Songs chart, which monitors airplay across all genres of radio stations, Eminem debuts at No. 31 with "The Monster." It's the second Radio Songs hit for Eminem from "The Marshall Mathers LP 2," following "Berzerk," which reached No. 41 in October.
Eminem gets the bulk of his airplay from mainstream top 40, rhythmic and rap radio stations. Currently, "The Monster" is at No. 27 on the Pop Songs chart (which monitors mainstream top 40 airplay), No. 19 on Rhythmic airplay and No. 17 on Rap airplay.
In addition to ranking at No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart this week with "The Monster," Eminem also holds down the Nos. 6-8 slots with "Berzerk," "Survival" and "Rap God," respectively.
Last week's No. 1, Drake's "Hold On, We're Going Home," featuring Majid Jordan, falls to No. 2. Jay Z's "Holy Grail," featuring Justin Timberlake, dips 2-3, and Mike WiLL Made-It's "23" holds at No. 4. Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" falls 3-5, while YG's "My Hitta" is pushed backwards 5-9, despite an overall gain in chart points.
Chris Brown's "Love More" closes out the top 10, forced down 7-10 despite a gain.
Just outside the top 10, Michael Jackson's "Thriller" re-enters at No. 14, thanks to strong digital sales and streams caused by the Halloween holiday. The classic cut peaked at No. 3 on the list on March 10, 1984 during its initial 14-week chart run. Now a staple during Halloween celebrations, "Thriller" rose 51% to 35,000 downloads and 82% to 2 million domestic streams. "Thriller" concurrently re-enters the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 42. It originally peaked at No. 4.
Over on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, Drake's "Nothing Was the Same" is steady at No. 1 for a fifth non-consecutive week, selling another 38,000 (down 13%). Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience (2 of 2)" rises one rung to No. 2 (20,000; down 20%) and the Robert Glasper Experiment's "Black Radio 2" debuts at No. 3 with 15,000.
DJ Khaled's "Suffering From Success" drops 2-4 (9,000; down 66%) and TLC's "20" slips a slot to No. 5 with just under 9,000 (down 57%).

11/7:Justin Bieber Allegedly Caught Spraying Graffiti in Brazil
The website of Brazil's biggest news outlet published photos Wednesday it says show pop star Justin Bieber spray painting graffiti on a wall. And it adds that police want to question him about it.
The O Globo newspaper reported that photographers snapped photos of Bieber as he painted graffiti on a wall of the former Hotel Nacional in Rio de Janeiro Tuesday morning.
Defacing buildings is a crime in Brazil punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine.
O Globo said police went to the mansion Bieber rented in Rio to question him, but he was not there.
Phone calls and emails to the police department for more details went unanswered. Calls and emails to Bieber representatives Melissa Victor, Nick Styne and Aaron Rosenberg were not returned.
According to the Globo TV network Bieber flew out of Brazil Wednesday afternoon on a private jet and went to Paraguay, where he was scheduled to perform.
In the Colombian capital of Bogota, where he performed last week, Bieber upset authorities when he spray-painted graffiti on a wall along one of the capital city's main avenues while being escorted by officers in a police car.

11/7:Lana Del Rey Releases 'Tropico' Teaser: Watch
Lana Del Rey's short film "Tropico" doesn't have a release date just yet, but that didn't stop the singer from releasing a teaser for the film today (Nov. 6).
"Dear John, forgive us our sins," Del Rey repeatedly whispers while wearing a veil of some sort in the 13-second video. Toward its end, a cowboy-looking figure appears wielding a gun before the clip abruptly ends.
The teaser follows the announcement of "Tropico," a 30-minute short film, last July. The film, co-produced by Rick Rubin, stars model Shaun Ross and, according to Rolling Stone, has described the film as "Elvis and Jesus and Marilyn and extraterrestrials all in one."
It's unclear whether or not the film could be a long-form music video for many of the songs from her 2012 major label debut "Born to Die" or subsequent EP "Paradise."
The singer recently cracked the Billboard top 10 for the first time with a Cedric Gervais remix of "Born to Die" track "Summertime Sadness."

11/7:George Strait, Blake Shelton and Taylor Swift Shine at CMA Awards
The 47th Annual Country Music Association Awards were held Wednesday on a rainy night in Nashville, but despite the weather, the spirit of the artists and fans was high as Music City held court for all the world to see. And, on a night when the future of the format was served, the big award of the night went to one of the most legendary stars in the business. George Strait – who won the Entertainer of the Year trophy from the CMA in 1989 and 1990, returned to the ultimate winners' circle after an absence of 23 years.
Strait's win aside, it was a night for many of the bright young stars of the genre. Florida Georgia Line topped the Billboard Country Songs chart for a record-setting 24 weeks with "Cruise," and their record-setting performance was noted with their first CMA win for Single of the Year. The winning was not over for the Republic Nashville duo, as they also took home the Vocal Duo prize.
One of the biggest surprises of the evening was in the Song of the Year award, which went to Jessi Alexander, Connie Harrington, and Jimmy Yeary for their emotional "I Drive Your Truck," a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Country Airplay chart for Lee Brice. Another relative surprise was Blake Shelton's win for Album of the Year for "Based On A True Story."
Kacey Musgraves capped off a successful first year with a win in the New Artist of the Year category. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her family – including her grandmother, whom she said was her booking agent when she was ten years old. "CAA, you better step it up," she said, referring to powerhouse Creative Artists Agency. "She didn't make me sign a contract."
There were a trio of repeat winners during the evening. Little Big Town scored a second straight win for Vocal Group of the Year. Miranda Lambert joined Reba McEntire and Martina McBride as the only women to win the Female Vocalist of the Year prize four times. She thanked husband Blake Shelton for "putting up with my crap." Shelton also joined the four-time club as well, taking home Male Vocalist of the Year – a category he has won in since 2010.
Musgraves was tied with Taylor Swift for the most nominations during the evening, and Swift's name was called three times, including the presentation of the Pinnacle Award by Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Rascal Flatts, George Strait, Keith Urban, and Brad Paisley. Understandably, the moment was an emotional one for Swift, who was visibly moved to tears by the all-star presentation. The award was only presented once before, to Garth Brooks.
In categories announced prior to the telecast, Mac McAnally walked away with Musician of the Year for the sixth straight year, tying a mark set by Mark O'Connor from 1991-1996 (Chet Atkins still leads the category with nine wins). McGraw, Swift and Urban won the trophies for Musical Event of the Year and Video of the Year for "Highway Don't Care." It was McGraw's fourth win in the category, having earned the award with wife Hill in 1997, Tracy Lawrence and Kenny Chesney in 2007, and with the latter once again last year for their "Feel Like A Rock Star" single.
Performance-wise, it proved to be a night to remember. Bryan opened the show with a high-octane, abbreviated performance of "That's My Kind Of Night," before giving way to his former opening act, Florida Georgia Line. Eric Church performed his new single "The Outsiders," which drew from many different genres. McGraw – who will mark two decades in the top ten next year- showed that his talent is as cool and timeless as ever with a performance of his current "Southern Girl" single. Show co-host Underwood wasn't going to leave the rockin' to the guys, as she dazzled with a medley of hits from Blown Away that included "Good Girl." "Two Black Cadillacs," "See You Again," and the title cut.
However, it wasn't all high-flying action. Little Big Town's performance of "Sober" was one of the absolute highlights of the show, offering Kimberly Schlapman a rare opportunity to sing lead. The Band Perry's "Don't Let Me Be Lonely" was also one of the most well-received slower moments of the night with its' dramatic power arrangement. Luke Bryan returned to the stage late in the show to perform his new single, "Drink A Beer," in what might be the performance of his career. He performed it in honor of his late brother and sister, Chris and Kelly.
The night also featured several high-profile musical collaborations, such as Urban and Miranda Lambert, who performed "We Were Us." Swift performed a bluegrass-ish version of her single "Red," which featured performances from Vince Gill and Alison Krauss, among many of Nashville's top pickers, which earned a standing ovation. Hunter Hayes and Jason Mraz delighted the crowd with "Everybody's Got Somebody But Me."
Possibly the highlight of the evening was George Strait and Alan Jackson's tribute to George Jones. A two-time Male Vocalist of the Year (1980 and 1981). Jones passed away in April at the age of 81. The two performed his signature song, "He Stopped Loving Her Today" - the CMA Single and Song of the Year in 1980. It wasn't the only all-star salute of the night. Kenny Rogers won the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, as many of his hits were performed by Rascal Flatts ("Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In"), Darius Rucker ("The Gambler"), and Jennifer Nettles, who performed "Sweet Music Man" as well as "Islands In The Stream" with the singer – a recent Country Music Hall of Fame inductee.
The hosts of the show also got their digs in. In their opening monologue, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood performed "Why Can't We Be Friends," mocking some of the more newsworthy feuds this year. The song prompted Zac Brown and Luke Bryan to share a hug. Brown has taken some flak for his comments regarding Bryan's "That's My Kind Of Night" single. The hosts also poked fun at Obamacare and Miley Cyrus (multiple times), and performed a parody of "Blurred Lines" that brought the famous Robertson clan of "Duck Dynasty" fame to the stage. Jason Aldean offered a riveting performance of his recent hit "Night Train." Lady Antebellum returned to the performance stage with a bouncy version of their new single "Compass." The trio have been on hiatus following the birth of Hilary Scott's daughter Eisele Kaye.
Musgraves, one of country's biggest critical sweethearts of 2013, performed her current single "Follow Your Arrow," which included an unusual moment for a country awards show. The "live and let live" message of the song must not have agreed with everyone, as ABC censors bleeped the word "joint" from the song.

11/6:Jennifer Nettles Talks New Rick Rubin-Produced Solo Album, Motherhood
Jennifer Nettles has finished the music, chosen a cover photo and now she has a release date for her debut solo album — Jan. 14.
Nettles revealed the date Monday night in an interview at the ASCAP Country Awards, making one of many appearances this week. The Sugarland singer kicked things off with a listening party for her new Rick Rubin-produced album, "That Girl," on Sunday. She will attend the Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday and will serve as host during the taping Friday of the CMA's Christmas show.
Expect to see a different side of the 39-year-old singer as she reveals her new music. They're the first without her Sugarland partner Kristian Bush. The Grammy Award-winning duo is on hiatus.
"I think this album so far for me musically has been the most intimate and personal ... musically and vocally," Nettles said. "I think it's way more intimate to me and way more personal in the sense that when you collaborate, that's the nature of collaboration, you're affecting each other, and playing with and inspiring each other, and yet there are things that one may not get to do or want to do when collaborating."
"I'm able to show a side that I think's more womanly," Nettles said. "I think it's more mature, and so that's big for me. I think it gives you perspective all around, not just musically but also in my career. I think you get superefficient because you have to be. You don't worry about things that were superimportant before because you have a baby and you just burn that underbrush out. You feel like a huntress."
